Day 30: patience is a virtue

Tries to make a face out of bottlecaps taken from a bar. 4 hours later, I'm frustrated and faceless. Here's face 30:

#26: art kills dog

Just kidding! Harley is just snoozing while being a good model for my faces of the day! I carved face stamps again and stamped them on a watercolor washed background.

Shadow puppet face: day 16

San Diego experienced a huge power outage yesterday.

Sun, Ivan, Harley and I decided to make the best of it...

Harley howled at the bright moon. The humans ate pasta by the candlelight. Humans and canine filmed a cool blair-witch style video on Ivan's Ipad.

A beer at the blind lady topped off the night perfectly. As we were walking back to Sun's house all of the lights came on in Normal Heights.... the world's order was restored once again.

However, when I got home to OB the power was still out.... so I turned on my camping light and made a shadow puppet face.

Tired face: day 13th

Had big ideas for my face today but spent too much time thinking and not enough time doing.

Before I knew it, it was so late.

At the end of the day any face is a face.

Face of Day 12: hand stitched obsessed

Finally able to post day 12! Things have been crazy... lots of work, and staying @ Harley's (dog featured in Day 11) house, which doesn't have the internet. Plus, Manny left to go back to NYC on friday (wahhhhh!)Basically, Whit= all over the place.

Onwards and artwards onto Day 12...

Day 12: Why?... What?.... How???...

Why

    1.  I've grown to ♥ hand sewing/stiching... (as shown in Day 5, 11, 12). I daydream of the endless possibilities of what I can do with embroidery floss & a needle....

    2. I  ♥ typography

    3. Laziness. I thought it wouldn't take long. So wrong.

    4. My desire to change my blog header (thought may end up cool)

What

  1. Canvas Pad

  2. Pencil to trace

  3. Scissor

  4. Embroidery Floss

  5. Lots of sewing needles

How

The reason I ♥ hand sewing is there is a lot of creative freedom...a.k.a. I totally winged this, ha.

Then.... it started to look like a lucha libre mask.

Doggy daze.... Day 11

For the next 3 weeks, I am dog sitting Harley, who might be the coolest dog ever.

For my day 11 face I decided I wanted to hand stitch/sew felt again. Thank god Harley was modeling because he can make anything look cool.

Day 8. Freezer Paper Stencil Experiment

Face(s) of Day 8 = fun, fun, fun.

I got to:

*Links of Tutorials

The process.

Cut.

To make the stencil I first sketched the first face (left) with pencil (on the dull side of the freezer paper). Then I cut out shapesfrom the sketch with an x-acto knife. After the first face, I realized I found the sketching--->cutting process tobe tedious, so I free-handed --with the x-acto knife -- the second face, the one in the blue (see the finished photo below).

Iron

I ironed the stencils onto the canvas, then started to paint. I had no real concept to work off of so I just winged it.

Paint

Spray Paint, Acrylics, Paper Towels, Drips, Mix

[caption id="attachment_51" align="aligncenter" width="401" caption=" i love Acyrlic + Alcohol"][/caption]

Peel!

After paint dried, I peeled the stencil off.

Although it didn't turn out as crisp and neat as I'd hope I like the effects created by the acrylic- alcohol- water mix. Also, freezer paper stencil are supposed to work best on fabric,  so I don't think primed canvas was the ideal surface for the stencil to seal onto. Either way, I'm digging freezer paper.
